    1. [FARR] FARR's in New York
    2. Mark F
    3. Hello Cousins ... I am new at using Roots-L, so I will have to see how this works. I am a Farr researcher in Niagara Ontario Canada. My family came to Canada in 1797 from Orange Co, NY. I have hit many brick walls while they were in NY, and have several loose-ends. My 4th G-GF was Richard, who appears in the 1790 census of Orange Co, NY. I am wits end attempting to determine his wife Elizabeth's maiden name. I do know that she was a member of the Presbyterian church at Ridgebury NY. I have contacted the Pastor there, who stated that they do have records going back to the 1700's, but the clerk will not allow anyone to access them. (No comment) If anyone would know of this family while in Orange, and be able to pass along info, it would be appreciated. My other brick walls are Richard's brothers, Archibald and John. John was married to Phebe Harris and resided in Amenia, Dutchess Co, NY. Phebe alone appears in the 1790 census, as John died in 1788. They had several children, including a son, but I haven't been able to find any other info on the family except for the death dates for John, Phebe and a daughter (Rosannor) in the Amenia cemetery. I find nothing of their daughters or the son after 1790. Archibald appears in Clinton, Dutchess Co, NY in 1790 with a wife and several children. I haven't been able to find any other info on this family after this time, with the exception of Archibald's Rev War pension application in 1832 at Rome, NY. He doesn't mention anything of family members, only his parents and birth place. He does make statements that he has lived in Dutchess, Sullivan Co, and Hector NY. There were FARR 's living in Seneca Co, and Hector NY, but I have not been able to tie him to those Farr's. I have no clues at all as to his wife or children were. The parents of these brothers were John Farr and Eunice Adams, all of the brothers being born in Pomfret Conn. If anyone would have information on any of these families including names, dates, descendants, etc, it would be greatfully appreciated. I have info that I can share on many other FARR 's in NY, and much of the FARR 's in Niagara, and those who ventured west. Merry Christmas to All Mark Farr markrf@cogeco.ca markrf@hotmail.com

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/pdV.2ACEB/701 Message Board Post: According to Henry Pharr's book of 1955 the earliest Pharr/Farr/Fair he could find in America was around 1748 in Virginia. I have found references to a Edward Farr as early as 1635 coming to America on the ship Amitie and landing in St Christopher. Another Edward Farr is listed among 7 persons transported by Luke Bullington to Virginia for which Luke received 329 acres on Mar 18, 1663. Another Edward Farr was listed among 16 persons transported to Virginia by Paul Woodbridge for which Paul received 800 acres in Rappahannock Co Sept 19, 1664. Mr Pharr also does not mention a marriage between a Edward Far and a Mary Perkins in Louisa Co, Va Nov 14, 1779. Nor does he show a Edward Farr age 18 who came to Virginia on ship Carolina from London in Dec 1774 as indentured servant.

    3. FORWARDED with permission: Hi group, I have been transcribing Bible records from the Family Bibles being offered at Ebay when the photos of the records pages are legible. I hope in this way, at least some of these won't be lost when the Bibles are purchased and disappear. Be sure to check the indexes to see all surnames in the transcriptions. You can see these at: http://www.ancestorhunt.com/family_bible_records.htm All transcriptions have been indexed and the indexes are at: http://www.ancestorhunt.com/family_bibles_index.htm Hope these will help someone.
