    1. ENGLISH Family Bible
    2. Eileen Roddy
    3. Two years ago I was very fortunate in being permitted to copy an ENGLISH Family Bible. This Bible was printed in London, England in 1599 and, according to a note in the Bible was "one of the first Bibles printed and was buried in England when ordered burned." The Bible is in very fragile condition with both fire and water damage. Both front and back covers are gone and a number of pages are missing. The title page, along with the first 76 pages, is missing. There is no identified family record section in the Bible, just blank pages in several sections whereon family records have been recorded. The Bible has supposedly been in the English family since 1704. Either the first owner did not record any family data, or those pages are among the missing. There could well have been another set of records in that first 76 pages as the spacing would be about right. There is no way to know how long the Bible was "buried" in England, but this ENGLISH family came to America and were in Burlington County, New Jersey and then on to other areas, including Tompkins County, New York and Potter Co., Pennsylvania. This Bible is now in the possession of an English descendant of San Diego, Calif. and he graciously allowed me to copy the family information - by hand, not photocopies as the Bible is much too fragile. I too am an English descendant and I am willing to share the information in this Bible if anyone is interested. Eileen Roddy
