Greetings: This bible has a leather label on the inside of the front cover jacket which apparently identifies the original owner as: JOHN MAISEY, Upton Near Shiffnal Salop 1865 It is the Self Interpreting Family Bible by, The Rev. John Brown, Vol 1, printed in London: "Printed for THOMAS KELLY, Paternoster Row." This bible is very interesting and unusual. It is embellished with beautiful steel engravings (pictures) has ancient maps, etc. It has normal wear for it's age. I purchased this bible from an antique shop back in the 70's here in Houston, Texas. This bible had the front part of an envelope post marked "GRAYS Essex, Nov. 29, 1945" The envelope was addressed to: Miss L. M. Heobert, 281 Flaxby (?) Rd., Stechford, Birmingham. 9 . (I think the first letter of the last name is an H but due to the English script I am not positive) Theory: The owner of this bible must have immigrated to the US after WWII Perhaps this bible came from an estate sale Unfortunately, I did not ask any questions of the dealer I bought the bible from and it has been over 20 years that I have had it stored in my bedroom closet.
