Miss Minnie Lay and Jesse A. Sheets married April 4, 1906. Harry M. Lay and Grace A. Smith were married January 20, 1909. Harvey J.(?) Lay and Anna Londene were married February 3, 1909 Births: Mr Thomas H. Lay, Jr was born November 29th 1858. Mrs. Lucy A. Lay was born November 1, 1863 Harry Monroe Lay was born January 5th 1882 Minnie Bell Lay was born March 23th 1884 Harvey Thomas Lay was born June 9th 1886 Melvin Graham Lay was born Octrober 19th, 1898 Deaths: Melvin Graham Lay died February 25th 1902 Thomas H. Lay, Jr. died June 14th, 1936 Harry Lay died June 9, 1940 Lucy Ann Lay passed away April 12, 1946 Pallbearers for Mother Joe Goraker, Felix Schumer, Loren Hinkle, Ernest Bird, Oliver Schmidt, Bruce Ethridge, Dennis Medlock and Harvey Rock. Born in White Side Co. Ill. Married on February 3, 1881. Moved to Hope Kansas in August (fall of 1881. She was baptized 55 years ago when serveces were held in the Maple Grove school house by the Evangelical faith. W. Jasper Graham was born in Kentucky and Katherine Eads in Todd County Kentucky.( Lucy's parents) Pallbearers for Father. Mr. Bird, Felix Schumer, Aaron Wingard, Andrew Schrader, Jog Blagg, Joe Goracke. A piece of needle work used as a bookmarker reads "Think of Sarah" Obituary contained in the Bible on THOMAS HENRY LAY reads as follows: "After a lingering illness lasting for several weeks Grandpa Lay quietly passed away(sic) at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Elmer Hoffman, surrounded by a host of relatives and friends. Thomas Henry Lay was born in Cornwall county, England, October 24, 1836, and died in Hope, Kansas, early Thursday morning, just after the midnight hour, September 22,, 1921, thus being 84 years, 10 months and 28 days of age. When he was nearly 20 years of age, he with his parents left England and came to America, making their home at Ripley, Chautauqua countyk New York. It was here that Mr. Lay married Miss Eliz Daw on January, 1858. To them seven children were bonr-four sons, and three daughters. The sons are Thomas H. Lay Jr. and W.J. Lay of Hope, Burton Lay of Colony and George Lay of Enterprise. His daughters are Mrs. Rosa Eddy of Hope, Mrs. Lillie Deeken of Albany, Ill., and Getrude Hatfied of Pearl. Kansas. He also has surviving him 26 grand-children and 17 great-grandchildren. His wife died April 30, 1918. He moved from New York state to Jefferson, Astibula county, Ohio, in 1860. He lived there until 1872, when he moved to Whiteside county, Illinois, remaining there until 1885. He with his family came to Kansas, settling on a farm in Dickinson county ,seven miles northwest of Hope. Although, he lived mostly with his children and grand-children after his wife's death, yet this was counted his home until the end of his life. The deceased was a man respected by his friends, was of industrious habits, with integrity and other sterling qualities. He took an interest in public affairs and leaves a legacy of an honest life to the world behind him. Funeral services were held at the home of Elmer Hoffman, Friday afternoon by Reb. E.M.
