Navarro: There are descrepencies and blanks. The only conclusion is that many of these entries were made long after the events took place. 1. W. Ellis & Eliza Ellen are noted as being born in Sumter Co. ALA. while on the 1850 census of Grimes Co., TX, William gave his birthplace as NNC and Eliza Ellen gave hers as SC 2. Under marriages...Cowper S. Taliafeno. In Grimes County Deeds the name is spelled Ccowper S. Taliaferro. The Taliafeno is probably a typographical error. 3. The son of Williaam Ellis who inherited the Biblee was only 8 yrs old at the time of his father's death so later entries were probably guessed at. ie: He has Wm. Eugene's death as 1875 but Wm Eugene's son said his father was killed when he was about 35 yrs old which would make the date 1879. Barbara Rivas sayona@telepath.com

Hello list, I too MUST ask.....how do we access the records submitted previous to our signing on with the Family Bibles Mailing List? We may be looking for something that is already there! Thanks for your time! Floa SWISHER
This Bible was found in an Antique shop in Southwestern Virginia and has since been sent to the Tennessee State Library and Archives. The information is typed exactly as it appears in the Bible. I think Abram MASON might have purchased the bible after it had belonged to Zachariah BELL because there are two different handwritings for the BELL family and MASON family. A lot of Bible records can be found at State Archives and Libraries. Here in Virginia I buy old bibles with family histories, trancribe them, then search out on the net to find out what County they were found in and send the transcription to the US Genweb to put in their archives, I then send the original Bible to the State Library for safe keeping as most of them are very old and brittle. I am new to this list.... How do I access earlier Bible records? Ray Hunt
This certainly seems like a long shot. My g-g-grandfather died in the Civil war. His widow's request for a pension for the children has created a rather good sized file in the National Archives. In order to prove their relationship, the family Bible was used instead of vital records which were not recorded at the time. Because a family Bible did exist, there is always the slim chance that it still exists ----somewhere. This is what I am searching for: Family Bible of Henry and Christina Elizabeth PORTER from Marine city or the vicinity in MICHIGAN. Most of the births would be dated about 1860 or so. If anyone has this or has seen reference to it, please e-mail me. THANK YOU. Good luck with your own quest. Sincerely, Maxine Capezza

The following is an extracted copy of the family Bible of Mason and Margaret (SHELTON) HARDING. My understanding is that this copy was made by Gordon E. Lyons of Kansas City, MO. The extracted copy was given to Charles Mallette of Houston, Texas, prior to Mr. Lyon's death in 1974. Mr. Mallette sent a copy of it to me, Tony Servies, of Greenback, TN in 1995. All I have is a typed copy of the original. Since Mr. Lyons evidently extracted this data, I feel that he did not own the original. Due to the wealth of information that this Bible contains, I thought I'd pass it on to other researchers. I do not have a photocopy of the Bible, and in fact have no further information on it. I would like to locate the original version. If you know where it is, please let me know. Notes: The extracted copy is a typewritten document. It is subdivided into five "pages" which identified the original page numbers in the Bible. The data is separated into two columns, which I will designate as Column 1, Column 2 below. The original extractor must have had problems reading all of the data, since there are missing data identified by hyphens (---) and question marks (??). Apparently the Bible was illegible or barely legible. I will faithfully reproduce all of the typewritten information, except portions that are denoted as strikeouts, since these were the typist's errors (as noted in a footnote). I do not have any information on the copyright date of the Bible, so I don't know if it was authentic or a recollection.
