Hello List, My cousin is in possession of a family bible published in 1888 with family information in it. He states to me that it is very fragile. He is thinking of having a cedar box made for it to better preserve it for future generations. Is cedar ok for that purpose. If not, what would be the best method of storage to preserve it? Any and all help appreciated here! Thanks for your time. Floa Swisher

Book and paper preservation can be a tricky business. I would suggest an archival quality cardboard box that is available from several archival materials companies. The material will not breakdown papers or books. It keeps dust and some insects away from the book. Humidity is a concern also. Be sure that the box is in an area that the temperature and humidity are stable. You might want to check out the preservation links that I have listed on my Echoes of the Past Archive page at http://www.echoesarchive.com/links.htm. They have much more indepth information. I am just learning preservation and reservation! AGLL is one of the companies that sells preservation supplies. You might want to check out their website. Thanks, Cheryl Hawley

Thanks Marti! ---------------------------------------------- Dear List, A few more questions if I may. Is this list fairly new? And when we search the archives of it, it is the archives of queries and not solely bible information submitted by participants. Is that the way it will always be? Guess the thing to do now is tell our other contacts so we can get this one going....right? Thanks for your time. Floa Swisher
