I'm sorry that some of the birth and death info got jumbled up- at least the way it came back to me! I tried too hard to lay it out on the L & R sides of the page, as in the Bible, and the lines got bumped around, making it hard to sort the info in several entries, so I changed the layout a bit and hope it comes out better after I resend it. I am looking for the SIMMS/SIMS family bible. The only one I KNOW exists was from Leon County, Texas. Elizabeth Manning SIMMS had one that included her husband Leroy and children: Lizzie married Sam Leathers, Flourney Montgomery married Laura Neyland, and Lee married Lona Shephard. Sue Simms Hill
Hello Maxine and other Bible Hunters, I used to do research at the Archives and many times in a soldier's military pension file the actual Bible pages torn from one will be found. Since there were no copy machines back then the actual pages were sent in to prove a claim. You might try to find a local DC researcher to look at the file. The Archives people just select a few pages to copy, but there could be several hundred pages of material to go through. It's amazing what you can find. Good luck. I'm looking for the whereabouts of a Murphy family Bible of William Green Murphy of Marysville California. This search is in connection with my own geneological research. John H. Goebel
Hi there, This last summer, my Mother purchased 2 old books at an estate sale. One, which I have, is an old German Hymnal. On the inside cover is a hand-written prayer, the date 1899, and the following inscription: M--- Tillie Thies, From Mrs. C.A. Stark The book my Mother kept is a small German Bible with several inscriptions, mostly in German. The name Thies is prevelant in this book also. She purchased the books somewhere near Huntley, IL. She doesn't believe anyone would want these books because they were being sold by the family at an estate sale. I, on the other hand, feel sorry for these poor lost books. I am sure I could convince her to give up the Bible if there is a family member out there that would like to have it back. If anyone out there is "related" to these poor books please contact me. Hello and Happy New Year. When I received the file on my great great grandfather from the National Archives a family Bible was mentioned. It was used to prove his children's births so that they could receive a pension from the government as he was killed in the Civil War. So at one time a family Bible did exist. I joined this group in the hope...however remote...that the Bible is still somehwere. It would contain the following information. Henry PORTER and Christine or Elizabeth LUTZ PORTER were married about 1855 in Marine City, Michigan. This is in St. Clair County. Their children were Fredericka Elizabeth, Maria W. , John Frederick, and Henry C. All born between 1855 and 1862. The mother died in Marine City in 1862. The parents were from Germany, possibly Sachen. I know this is like looking for a needle in a haystack, but stranger things have happend. So I submit my inquery. Thanks for your time. Maxine Capezza

Located a Bible in an antique shop in White Cloud, MI. Don't know how much she wants for it. There is lots of genealogy in it and I know someone would love to have it. Surnames: DANIEL, STONE In about 1914 my g-grandmother Leola (DANIEL) STONE b. Sep 11, 1874 and 3 of her children Maude Beulah STONE b. Apr. 28, 1899(98?), Howell Roland STONE b. Dec. 10, 1903, and Hester Louduskie Macy Stewart "Ruth" STONE b. July 1, 1906 traveled from Alabama to Rawlins WY for Leola's health (TB). They were evicted from their boarding house because they could not pay the rent. The landlady kept a trunk filled with "Mama's quilts" and the family BIBLE in lieu of rent. My grandmother regretted the loss of the quilts and bible til her dying day (my birthday four years ago.) I would dearly love to bring that orphaned BIBLE back to its loving family. Other STONE siblings that might be listed are Lila STONE b. Mar 9, 1896 and stayed in Alabama and Clara Ella STONE b. 1900, d. 1901. Other names that might be listed include DANIEL, STONE, STEWART, BRUNER, MONCUS, PLEASANT, JACKSON, WINSOR, CLEMENTS, TARPLEY, SOWELL, LUMPKIN. Anyone with any information about this BIBLE or hints on where or how to search please contact me. If your family ran a boarding house in Rawlins at about this time, please check your attics. If you can think of a good place to post this where that one "right" person might see it, please copy it and do so.
