I am looking for a Bible that is said to have disappeared from an outside shed where it had been stored sometime after 1914. It contained recordings of the HEWITT family. Other surnames which are probably included are ARNOLD, GUINN & BOWERS My Grandfather, James Hewitt, born 1856 should be listed He was an orphan child, then disappeared in 1892. Possibly this is my source of finding information about him. Thanks. I hope someone can help me. Marg

Hello all, I don't know why I haven't thought of it before, but Linda's question yesterday turned on that little light bulb in my head! I should've already told you guys! About a month ago I started "rescuing" old family pictures, deeds, letters etc. that had ANY family name on it at flea markets and yard sales. Sunday afternoon I lucked into my first "found" bible! The Snodgrass one I submitted yesterday. I KNEW I couldn't be the only rescuer out there.....I was RIGHT! Since I have a website {nothing fancy}, I figured I might as well start putting them there to share. I got a brain storm for "Rescued Family History Items" and have now devoted a whole page for them. ANYONE interested, is invited whole heartedly to donate {or sell to me} ANY item of this nature for the project! It is totally non-profit . I am doing it in hopes to help these families regain what is rightfully theirs! I have a small collection posted on my site at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/7741/photo.html Thanks for your time. Floa Swisher

I sure wish I knew about this list about a year ago. I had purposely bid on an old Family Bible at an auction, BECAUSE there were four pages of a family's genealogy and it had consisted of 5 generations. The youngest generation was from Clinton County, IN, so.... since I could not locate anyone in that family I gave it to the local library.... in hopes that someday, when someone does the genelaogy on that line, they will find it. Now that I know this list exist, I will outbid everyone on Family Bibles at auctions, and post it to this list, and hope someone can claim their Family Bible. Thanks... be sure to check out the surnames that I research - below, Jo-Ann Killion Pedigo Pedigoat Farms, Nubian Forte' 2890 E. 750 N. Linda, I think you have done a great job posting it here. Rootsweb also has the GenConnect boards that now let you post to the actual surname (if it's been submitted) There is a Lowry surname listed. No one has posted to it yet. Here is the link to check the indexes. http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/indx/FamAssoc.html Then find the search box below. Also Dee, don't give up on someone finding you. I've been on the net about 4 years now. There are plenty of beginner starting everyday yet. I have also posted to the location the family lived. The county genweb page. Sooner or later they will come looking there too!. I've had several distant family members find me on bible postings. Remember all the postings can be searched through archives and the new Genseeker link is pretty nice too. http://seeker.rootsweb.com/search.html Best of luck in your searches; Lou Ann Searching families of: Clugh, Eury-Ewry, Kantz, Lock, Morris, Nicholson, Terry, White http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/l/u/Lou-A-Clugh/
Hello, Yesterday at a flea market near Marietta, OH , I found an old bible and wanted to share it's contents here. I figure the more we share the more we learn! It didn't contain much information but it HAS to be someone's family. The bible is in rough shape...... No front, back off but with bible, some pages are smushed and crammed back in. Gold edged pages. BUT, the pages with the information are intact. =================================== It states: On top page of bible: Minnie L. Snodgrass Between Old and New Testaments: Minnie L. Snodgrass was born at Harrietsville, Noble Co. Ohio on March the 30th 1879. This certifies that David B. Snodgrass of Rinards Mills O and Minne L. {N}llman of Rinards Mills, O were by me united in Matrimony according to the ordinance of GOD and the laws of Ohio at the bride's home on the Sixth day of May in the year of our Lord 19_1903 {handwritten 1903 after the typed 19} Children's Names: William Samuel Snodgrass Clarence Edgar Snodgrass Deaths: David B. Snodgrass died Oct 9th 1925 =============================== Hope this helps someone! Floa Swisher http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/7741/photo.html Rescued Family History Items
Linda I am glad you ask this question. I have never seen this site. I have two old family bibles laying on my desk. I typed the info in on GenWeb and no one has ever contacted me concerning them, that was about 9 months ago. If this is the place, they sould send notice to all the rootsweb mailing lists so people will know if a bible should show up that they are looking. What is the surnames in the bible(s) you have? Thanks for your help dee

After a branch of our family lost the old family Bible, full of valuable information, a few years ago, I have been searching yard sales and auctions for Bibles. My question is: Is this the place to post the information so I can get it back to the right families?
