    1. Please Family Bible info only!
    2. laura tyler
    3. Maybe I am out of line but if I get another query about somebody's family, and not something about a family bible, I will have no choice but to leave the list. I joined this list because I am looking for a missing family bible, not to see a query that can be posted to another site. Laura Reynolds Tyler laurat@succeed.net

    1. re; postings???
    2. L.A. Clugh
    3. I agree too. In the past this hasn't been a place to add family queries. No one is keeping track of the families for anybody. (well, I guess rootsweb is) I though this list was a place to POST your bibles. It really makes since to type it out and put it onto this list. When someone comes searching for a bible this would be the list to search through. And even if you have changed your email. The information will be there. Remember once you post to these lists. It's always there to search in the archives. So even if the bible you have isn't yours and you want to share it. This is the place! ^@@^ It will help somebody someday when they come looking. And could I add. Please list the complete area the family lived in. I'm from Lafayette. Do you know how many Lafayette's there are? I think 14 <g> . Thanks for sharing the good stuff! 3. Hello, I read a message a few minutes ago that stated they thought this was a list for posting family bible information. I think that is what I understood too. I "think" there may be another list for queries. With all due respect, it is GREAT to know that all these people have such and such family bible, it would be even GREATER if the information in it was shared! Maybe a brief description of the bible and it's condition and then the contents. That way we can see all the information AND could identify the family by more than a surname. Just a suggestion. Thanks for your time. Floa Swisher http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/7741/photo.html Rescued Family History Items

    2. Courtney Tompkins
    3. Hi, I thought it might be worthwhile to mention that there are actual bible page images on the VA libray site. Might get lucky... I found a couple of connected ones myself. They are from other areas also. http://eagle.vsla.edu/bible/ search "Word or Phrase", then "keyword" for best results. In the list of hits that come up, click on the NUMBER next to it, then "Image or other media information available " (not all of them have images) then the icon below "Click on icon for associated image or other media files:" to get to where you can download/open the images. You might have to get their TIFF viewer to open the images http://198.17.62.51/ss_services/vtlstif.html They have lots of other things online, some of the others have actaul images also Courtney tompkin@c2i2.com

    1. ENGLISH Family Bible
    2. Eileen Roddy
    3. Two years ago I was very fortunate in being permitted to copy an ENGLISH Family Bible. This Bible was printed in London, England in 1599 and, according to a note in the Bible was "one of the first Bibles printed and was buried in England when ordered burned." The Bible is in very fragile condition with both fire and water damage. Both front and back covers are gone and a number of pages are missing. The title page, along with the first 76 pages, is missing. There is no identified family record section in the Bible, just blank pages in several sections whereon family records have been recorded. The Bible has supposedly been in the English family since 1704. Either the first owner did not record any family data, or those pages are among the missing. There could well have been another set of records in that first 76 pages as the spacing would be about right. There is no way to know how long the Bible was "buried" in England, but this ENGLISH family came to America and were in Burlington County, New Jersey and then on to other areas, including Tompkins County, New York and Potter Co., Pennsylvania. This Bible is now in the possession of an English descendant of San Diego, Calif. and he graciously allowed me to copy the family information - by hand, not photocopies as the Bible is much too fragile. I too am an English descendant and I am willing to share the information in this Bible if anyone is interested. Eileen Roddy

    1. Re: OLD BIBLE from England
    2. This Bible may have arrived in the U.S. as a part of a cargo of antiques in the 1970s. Back then, I was actively interested in antiques and found out that dealers would purchase a container of assorted items from England for resale here. In other words, there may not be any relatives of this family in the U. S. I agree that it was probably part of an estate sale. It was most kind of you to buy it and preserve it nevertheless.
