John, if they were legally (marriage certificate filed with county) married the first time then that is the marriage. If they divorced before the second occurrence then they could be "legally" married again. If not divorced then the second time did not involve the ministry (or one who performed the ceremony) did not file any papers with the county. The second time was a ceremonial renewal of their previous marriage. You could write the details in a note related to their marriage. Thanks to all whom made suggestions on handling the 2 marriage "events" I'll probably go with just including the data and place of the religious "marriage" in the note field of the civil marriage date. I do realize that the civil marriage is the actual marriage event, but wanted to record for posterity that there was a second event and where and when it occurred. Thanks for all the suggestion. -- John Chapman "THESE are the times that try men's souls.." Thomas Paine 1776 Home Page http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~johnjay/
