Folks, Perhaps someone can help me: I recently erred and re-imported a Gedcom file (with resources). I merged all of the duplicate records, but the duplicate sources stubbornly refuse to merge. Is there some other method to remove the duplicate sources without laboriously checking each one for usage throughout the database? Thanks, Peter M. Morris Vista, CA USA

When you import and combine a gedcom into your FO10 database, you should run the smart merge routine with all boxes checked. Besides smart merge it includes merging sources, repositories, and globally unique ID. If you have backups that will take you back to the point just before you imported the gedcom file, it might be quicker to do that, re-import the gedcom file again and this time run the smart merge to merge the sources. But, back to the place you are now, you don't need to check for usage before merging sources. For each source you highlight in the source manager that has an exact duplicate, you can click on the merge button there in the source manager to merge them and all people or events that cite either source will be combined under the merged source. For sources that you know are duplicates but will not merge, you will need to make them identical by copying and pasting the fields from one to the other until they are exactly identical. FO10 has a glitch in this area where you have combined and merged duplicates but did not run the merge sources in the smart merge and subsequently did some more operations before getting around to merging the sources ..... in that case some of the duplicate sources that are really identical may not merge when the merge button in the source manager is clicked. Sometimes when that happens you can open one or both sources for editing and close the edit dialog back down and then they may merge OK. Wayne League
