    1. Re: [FO] GEDCOM/RESTORE Data??

    3. Perhaps you have a bad set of floppy disks, but I'm betting the problem is something else. I backup and restore at least twice weekly before and after going to the library. I back up from my desktop running Windows 98 2nd edition and restore to one of my laptops, one running XP home edition and the other Windows 98 2nd edition. I have NEVER had a single error message and I have been backing up and restoring this way for several years through a number of versions of FO. If you always have the same problem, you may have a floppy drive that is out of alignment on one of the computers. Do the same problems occur both directions? Do you have trouble using the floppy drive between computers for other programs? I would suggest perhaps that you purchase or borrow a zip drive and try backing up and restoring to a zip disk. If you have a cd writer, you could use cds as well. Another option is using a network to transfer files. If the same problem persists across media, I am not sure what to suggest. But my guess is that you will likely find using a drive other than the floppy will let you back up and restore. Margaret Scheffler ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jack Revare" <[email protected]> Subject: [FO] GEDCOM/RESTORE Data?? I have FO 10. I like to keep my database on a laptop I use while traveling. However, I tried backing up & restoring data--this did not work. Then I tried to export and import a Gedcom from my desktop to the laptop. This didn't work either. Botth were done with data on a floppy disk, In both cases, I got error messages and instructed to send them to Microsoft, which I did. I have Windows 98 on my desktop & XP on the laptop. I suspect incompatibility. Can anyone help? Jack Revare
