When installation was complete, it seems to me the new program had already found my 9.02 files and asked if I wanted to convert, which I did. What I am guessing is that it left the database in the 9.02 directory, which I had as a subdirectory of version 9.02. So when I deleted the version 9.02 directory, it took the database, too. In other words, converting the file did not move it to the version 10 directory. I suppose a good way to set up files would be to have the program in one directory (C:\FamilyOrigins) and the database in a different directory (C:\genealogydata). That way, when you change versions of the program, you are still using the same database when you convert and won't be deleting your data when you delete the old version of the program.
Right on! Never place data in a software folder or subfolder ...
