    3. Hi, Patricia, It's always best to have both current backups and also a current gedcom for each of your databases before installing a new version of FO (or any other genealogy program). That said, I upgraded directly from FO 5 to FO 9 last January with no problems whatsoever. Installation was smooth and v9 opened and converted the v5 databases perfectly.
