    3. Hello all, Is there a way to make the "Resided at" fact a family fact instead of an individual fact. If there isn't, I think it would be a good item for the wish list. I don't want to have to enter the exact same data at least twice. For people who don't move often this might not be a problem, but, as an example, my wife and I have resided at seventeen different locations since 1957 and I have short notes about each residence and sometimes photos to attach. As a matter of fact, my whole family seems to move frequently. Many of them were itinerant teachers, never in one place/school for more than about three years. 3. No, you can't make the Resided fact into a Family fact, but: I created a user defined FAMILY fact (user defined facts don't always transfer nicely to other programs in GEDCOMS) named "Lived at", and one called "moved to" and recorded some of the places we lived and the times my parents moved when I was little. I liked the way the "Moved to" reads on the book report. It says "They moved on 1 Mar 1944 to Round Lake, MN" (I selected "They" and wrote "moved" in for the sentence structure) the lived at or resided at should take from and to dates which get a bit cumbersome if you have many residences. Try it, on one or two people to see how you like it, if you don't, delete the facts, then delete the fact types. It writes the lines if I do a descendant book on either of my Grandfathers, and I only had to enter each move once. Good Luck, Alfred ================== ----- Original Message ----- From: "D. 3. Alfred, Dick Thank you for your response to my question. I was just looking for a way to avoid any extra work, I guess I'll have to create a "User defined fact" Dennis at Table Rock e-mail: dting@MonDesir.net Listowner: Guthridge-L@rootsweb.com , Level-L@rootsweb.com & Ting-L@rootsweb.com ----- Original Message ----- Subject: Re: [FO] Resided at fact > No, you can't make the Resided fact into a Family fact, but: > > I created a user defined FAMILY fact

    3. Here is some food for thought: 1. The GEDCOM standards for this fact define it as an individual fact. 2. It is not uncommon for members of the same family to live at different residences, many times in a different city or country. I have this happening on several branches of my own tree in England, Ireland, Germany, and the US clear back into the late 1700's. 3. What constitutes a family? In my records I have the traditional mom, pop, and children, extended families where grandchildren, uncles, aunts, or an aging parent is within the residence. Many times, children are removed from a residence for schooling or apprenticeships. What I am pointing out is the concept of a family is dynamic. With this being the situation, a computer program cannot attach a fact to these individuals (family members) with any accuracy. Should you still desire a Family Fact, define your own using the User Defined Facts capability. Dick ----- Original Message ----- From: "D.
