Whether or not you have RamBooster installed (I use FreeMem Pro and it works quite well - maybe somebody out there can give us a comparison of the two?), you should check your Virtual Memory settings. Virtual Memory is hard drive space that is set aside to be used by the operating system when your local memory gets full. It's kind of like a spare gas tank. The following are the steps to check/change Virtual Memory. The minimum settings were given to me by a man who runs a very large, world-wide network and who I trust unquestioningly so I am confident they will work for you. These instructions are for Windows 2000 but I think you'll find them close enough that you can do the job even if you're running Win 3.1, 95, 98 or NT. 'Start' 'Settings' 'Control Panel' 'System' 'Advanced' 'Performance Options' In the Virtual Memory box, click the 'Change' button In the Virtual Memory screen that opens, the initial size (MB) should be no less than 2 1/2 times your installed memory and the Maximum size should be no less than four times installed memory. e.g. for 64 MB of installed memory, Initial/Maximum sizes should be 160 MB and 256 MB minimum. Remember that your system has other resources that it can run out of so more Virtual Memory is not necessarily better. You'll end up with wasted disk space that the system can't use anyway because it doesn't have enough resources to run it all. -- Happy Hunting!! -- Paul Houston, TX, USA ICQ #73314929 Researching: VA - WHITE,LIPSCOMB,HILL,JOHNSON,SAUNDERS, TALBOT,TATE,EVANS NC - SMITH, BOSWELL, RHODES, CAPEHART,MORRIS, MARSHE, BRITT,SHAW View my American Ancestry at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~paulrsmith **************** FREE Credit Card Referral Program.
