Could any tell me how to get a gedcom file over to a new file in family origins "from" Outlook Express? Thank you. You are all so helpful. georgia
If you have a gedcom file as an email attachment, then save it to a place on your hard drive, for example in the C:\mydocuments\ folder or any other of your choosing. You can even save it to your desktop, or if small enough to a floppy disk. To save to a file, right click on the paperclip which will bring up a dialog box with the choices as to what you want to do with the file. After you have saved the file from the email, then open FO, create a new database with a unique name. With that new database open, click file, gedcom, import, navigate to where you have the gedcom file, and click to import it. Should the file be a zipped file you will need to unzip it to get it to the name.ged file format. If someone has sent you a FTM backup file instead of a gedcom file, then the above procedure will not work. You need to have a genuine gedcom file in order to import it to Family Origins. If someone were to send you a backup file from the same version of FO, you could restore it as you would one of your own backup files. If that is the case, make sure you do not overwrite your own data file.
