    3. Help Please. When I try to download a ged to desktop I get a message that the disk is full and to install another disk to continue. Of coarse there is no disk to be full as I am trying to get it on the desktop. I am running , Ver.# 8 on XP professional What is the problem and how do I fix it. Thanks. Murray Saskatchewan Canada.

    3. I suspect that you are not trying to "download" a GEDCOM, but you are trying to create one on your desktop, which is part of your hard drive, from FOW 8. FOW-8 doesn't understand the Windows NT file system used with Windows NT, 2000 or XP. It will create a GEDCOM if the disk, or partition, is smaller than 2GB, but if it is larger than that, it gets confused and thinks that the disk is full. You can create a GEDCOM on a floppy disk, a Zip disk or a CD and then copy it back to your hard drive. Or, get Partition Magic and create a new partition on your hard drive that is less than 2 GB, but it would be quite a bit cheaper to get the new RootsMagic Program and forget about this problem. Except that you have to export a GEDCOM from Family Origins for RootsMagic to import. I have heard that you can do backups to the large drives with XP, so you could create a backup and have someone else restore it and create a GEDCOM for you.
