At the point you looking at the backup in Winzip, you need to do Actions... Test from the menu bar. There's no way to do this from the Toolbar (or at least, not the way Winzip installs by default -- I don't know if you can add a Toolbar option for Actions... Test). This will verify the backup without restoring it.
