A little-known fact: The majority of people in the 13 Colonies supported the King of England during the American Revolution! The more active supporters of the King (called Tories) were labled traitors and lost their properties. Many moved to Canada or back to England to avoid hotility to themselves and tehir families. Unfortunately, I can name a few other American (USA) groups who lost their property to the Federal government, the right to vote and practice their religion, even their freedom because of their beliefs -- AFTER the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were adopted.
