    3. Marilyn, I don't believe it can be done. You can, however, add a Reference Number (REFN) for any individual in your data base. You have total control of the REFN, but the record number is assigned by the program. Click on Edit Individual and a screen will open with all the individual's information on it. Highlight what you want to change and do another right click with your mouse. The will bring up a menu with "Edit Fact" on it. Click on "Edit Fact" and a screen will come up where you can change the information you want to change.. After making the change, click the "OK" button. Look to see if the change you wanted was made on the "Edit Individual" screen. If so, click the OK button again and you're done. Jim

Now I see that you are asking about a record number and not about a record itself. I never pay any attention to record numbers. In my main database I set myself up as the "root person" and let FO do all the numbering automatically. That's done by going to "options", then "root person", and then picking yourself from the list. In other databases I use for reference, I set the person I connect with as the root person. Jim

    3. The record numbers for all individuals is computer generated at the time of entry. First come first numbered. I have heard that you can export yourself to a new database, thus creating Record number 1 for yourself, then import all the others (you can bring your self in again, just make sure that you merge into record 1 and not the other way around. If you are a database programmer, it would be possible to change numbers, but the next time you export a gedcom and re-import it, the record numbers might change again depending on how many and where in the database, you deleted or merged individuals.
