From Windows Explorer, you can delete all of the files that end with CDX. When you open that database again, you will see a box that says "re-indexing". When it is done, you will have your database back. (P.S. if you are using Win 98, the CDX files will go to the re-cycle bin, which always makes me more comfortable about deleteing things.) Norma
Norma, I have looked thru W.E. for the CDX files and fine none. There were so many I could have missed one or two. But none seen. I didn't mention I am runing Windows ME on a new Gateway, and v. 7.0 in FOW, installed the week before Easter so its 8 weeks old. And I had not been bothered with these problems until I got this computer. Paul Smith has been a "dear man" coming to help me. I think we (it) has him puzzled also. And he suggested I write the list for help. So I need any help. Does Windows ME have a "find" tool on the Windows start menu? If so, search your entire hard disk for "*.cdx" that is Splat dot cdx. I never used version 7, but I don't remember anyone mentioning it being any different from others so it should have cdx files. Especially since your error message mentions one of them as being bad. I haven't seen Windows ME, but I suspect that the Find function is still in the START menu. Select that and look for files named "*.CDX" without the quotation marks on your hard drive. That should all the "CDX" files on the drive. There should be several with the first seven letters of your database, in this case "William" one other letter and the extension of "CDX". You can select these right in the find window and delete them. The other CDX files that are found will be of your two other databases, no need to bother them as long as those databases are working. (There could also be some other program that uses the extension of CDX, so be careful to only mark the "WILLIAMx.CDX" files for deletion Then try again, what Norma said.
