    1. [FO] Setting Fact Type Options

    3. >Open your database, go to the Lists menu and select "Fact Types." >Find the LDS facts that you do not want and edit them so that their >information does not get sent to a GEDCOM file. Do that for each of >the LDS facts that you want to eliminate. > >Then export a GEDCOM of that database and import it into a new, empty >database and see if it is what you want. This discussion reminded me of an enhancement that I would like to see someday in Roots Magic. The facility to include or exclude individual fact types from GEDCOM, from reports, etc. is very powerful. However, the mechanics of viewing and setting the options is very clumsy. Somebody on the list (Alfred or Wayne, maybe?) once reported having an empty data base with all the fact type options set the way they wanted for special purposes, and into which they would on occasion import GEDCOM. I envision an interface which is a matrix, where the rows are the fact types (so there would be dozens or hundreds of rows) and where the columns would be actions to be taken for Family Group Sheet, Books, Individual Summery, Notes/source report, GEDCOM export, and WWW site (six columns). Each cell of the matrix would either be blank (if the item is not to be included) or an X (if the item is to be included). A right click of the cell would open up the dialog to define the sentence structure for the fact type. You could easily scroll up and down the matrix to see which fact types were enabled for which operations. My model for this is Quicken, of all things, where you can easily define which income and expense categories are to be included or not included in a report, and where there are buttons for Mark All and Clear All. (You typically Clear All and add a few, or Mark All and delete a few.) All categories come up in a single list down the screen, and you can easily scan up and down the list (scrolling the list is necessary because it's too long for one screen) to see and set which ones are included and which ones are not. I suppose the model doesn't transfer directly to Roots Magic, but I think it's something to think about. A beginner to Family Origins wouldn't notice the problem. But I can't always remember how I have the options for various fact types set, and it's extremely tedious and time consuming with the present model to verify the setting for each fact type. So when you need a better way to include/exclude fact types from various operations, you need it very badly.
