    3. I need help and hope I can explain what has happened. I have not done much inputting or research in the past year. I have had lots of computer problems in the past 6 months to a year. I did several backups and my computer finally crashed. I think I was running FO9, although I had bought FO10. I have several zip files and I "burned or saved" FO to a CD. I now have a new computer and need to try and install or reinstall FO and I don't have a clue how to start. Can someone "walk me very slowly" how I should go about this? I never did a GEDCOM (which I think I should have). If I recall correctly I did a "save as" on a zip and just "burned" a CD. If this doesn't make much sense, email be directly.

    3. Hi Gilbert -- There's no such thing as 'Save as' in FOW so you must have done either a gedcom or a backup. Recovery is quite simple if you have either a gedcom or a backup. In order to install FOW, you must have the installation CD. Do you have that handy? If so, all you have to do is stick the CD in the drive and close the door. The program will start automatically - just answer the prompts. Once the program is loaded, put your burned CD in the drive and close the door. When FOW first starts, I think you may get a screen prompting you to open a database, create a database, etc. If so, create a database and then proceed with the following. Open FOW and click on 'File' 'Gedcom' 'Import gedcom'. In the 'Look in' window, find your CD-ROM drive (it should be the first letter after your hard drive (c:) which would make it d: If you have two hard drives installed, it may be e: Once you click on that, you should see a file listing that ends in .ged which, hopefully, you will recognize as a gedcom you created. Click to highlight that file and then click the 'Open' button. If you do NOT see that file, cancel out and then do a 'File' 'Restore'. Go through the same procedure to find your CD-ROM drive and look for a .zip file. Again, hopefully, you'll recognize it as a backup file you created. Click to highlight that file and then click the 'Open' button. Hopefully one of the two procedures worked and you now have your database back. Good Luck!
