Re: CDs I use 4 CDRWs for each file, #1, #2, #3, and #4. Each backup overwrites the previous; I switch periodically to the next number, opening a new file with that number, and retaining the old files. This has been convenient, occasionally if something accidentally gets deleted, I can open the previous file, and drag or retype it. I am using #4 now, and will start over with #1. I feel protected with backups for different stages of research. The CDRW does not need to be formatted. The CDR does need to be formatted, and is convenient for sending information to a family member, etc. as they can open it. This has worked out great.
