Click on 'File' 2. Click on 'Copy/Export Family File' 3. Click on 'Save as type' drop down list and select 'GEDCOM' (*.GED)' -- do not select FTM for DOS - uses GEDCOM (*.GED) 4. In the 'File name' field, type a name for the GEDCOM file. It MUSt have the extension -- .GED 5. In the 'Save in' fields, select the drive and folder where you want to place your file ---probably A for diskette click on arrow to find the listing of files. 6. Click 'Save' 7. Make yor selections from the dialog box. I would use Destination as FTW, GEDCOM Version 5.5, Character set ANSI and let the check mark stay in Abbreviate tags. Then click OK 8. It will then export the whole file. If you want only part of them, she would have to make a new file in FTM with the individuals selected. Not as easy as Family Origins, but it works -- I think. I have never done it. I go from Family Origins to FTM once in while where there is something in FTM that I can't get in FO but only when absolutely necessary. Good luck. Byron

Byron In addition to the excellent instructions above, which will export ALL the people in the database, the following options are available for creating a Gedcom file. The following are two options that work wonderfully well for extracting a "direct line" or "all related kin" of a particular person. In FTM, you can also prepare an "outline descendant tree" report. Highlight the person of interest, create the report and while it is showing on screen, create a Gedcom from that report. The Gedcom will only contain the people listed in the report. With the report on screen, go to FILE, look for the entry .... Copy/Export Individuals in Outline Descendant Tree about halfway down the menu. In addition, you can also prepare a "kinship report" for the person you're interested in, and while that report is showing on screen, create a Gedcom based on the report. All people listed in the kinship report will be exported to the Gedcom. This Gedcom would contain more people than an "outline descendant tree" export. With the report on screen, go to FILE, look for the entry ... Copy/Export Individuals about midway down the menu Both of these methods are an easy way to filter/gather/export certain people, without having to share the entire database. Mary mleek@bellsouth.net
