Hay! this time I saw Wayne's post before I tried to answer :-) I agree that scanning at 2400 is a complete waste of space. have her take a look at the site about scanning at: http://www.scantips.com/ I scan at 300dpi, because that is all my scanner will do, and that is too high a resolution for the computer screen, not bad for printing though. I can see no reason to scan at a higher resolution than the printer will print, it just has to throw away any extra anyway. Now, about the full disk. Does she know that she has to empty the recycle bin to delete those old files. When you delete something in Windows and it goes to the recycle bin, you haven't really deleted it, only changed it's name so that you can no see or use it. to recover the space it used, you have to empty the recycle bin. This message is from a relative who is working with me to preserve a 100 year old photograph album. She was advised to make a 2400 dpi scan of each picture and save to CD. Her graphics program required her to save to hard drive before transferring to removable medium. > > After a couple days she is experiencing lockups. Her hard drive seems to be full, but she is unable to delete as described below, and she is also locking up on most internet site loads, leading her to believe that she has memory problems as well. She has run scandisk and also defragged. I am trying to help her. > > Thanks, > > Linda Scheimann > > > ------- Start of forwarded message ------- > > > I really haven't been on the computer much this week, but I still have > > problems.
