    1. [FO] Moving/Copying names & notes
    2. Can anyone tell me the best way to move names and notes from one file to another? I am using version 8.0 (have ordered v. 9.0). I have two files and for some reason I didn't want to merge them. I think I had it in my mind that the 'merge' feature had a problem, so I dragged and dropped the oldest ancestor and all of his relatives into the other file. It did not move the notes. Do I have to copy/paste the notes separately for each person? Thank you Kathy McKellep-Lathrop

    3. I can tell Family Origins to not export the notes to a GEDCOM, but I cannot tell it, not make it, not move the notes when I drag and drop. I do not know why the notes didn’t transfer. The merge problem is still there with drag and drop the same as it is with the GEDCOM export and import. I prefer the GEDCOM, because I have more control over what I export. If you drag anyone into a database that is already there, you will have to merge the like individuals. Merging is when you have two instances of the same individual and you combine or merge them into one. It gets to be tiresome if you have many to do. Good luck, Alfred =========== ----- Original Message ----- From: <KMcKellep@aol.com> > Can anyone tell me the best way to move names and notes from one file to > another? Do I have to copy/paste the notes separately for each person? First of all, have you applied the patch to upgrade your version 8.0 to 8.03? There is definitely problems in 8.0 with the drag & drop that are fixed with the 8.03 patch. Go to http://formalsoft.com/files.htm to get the patch if you have not. Dragging and dropping moves the notes as well as all data for the people you d&d. What it does not do is merge the people you move that way with the same people that may already be there. If you are seeing the people you dragged and dropped and the notes are missing then you may be looking at a copy of that person that was already in the destination database. Look in FO explorer and see if there isn't another person there that is the same one. After you D & D you must then merge all the duplicates that resulted. (Some people drag & drop only one person at a time because it is easier to keep up with everyone you moved that way) If you drag & drop with version 8.0 before you apply the patch for 8.03 then you will get a false source for every one moved. The 8.03 patch provides fixes for other problems also. You can read about what all it fixes from the download site. Wayne League
