    3. I received a file from a Family Tree Maker user - he said he was sending me a GEDCOM but it has an .ftw extension instead of a .ged extension. Can I import it somehow. John Kistenbroker Tennridge@blomand.net

    3. NO! FTM exports files in it's own file format by default, you have to select GEDCOM (*.GED) or something like that to export a GEDCOM. But, what can you expect from someone who is satisfied with FTM? Well, it isn't only Family Tree Maker users, a lot of people don't know the difference between a GEDCOM file and a website. Some of them might have a good heart though, and would convert the FTM file to GEDCOM for you. I suppose that it is like most other programs though, it would have to be opened by a version at least as high as the one that produced it. See if you can get your friend to export a real GEDCOM file for you, maybe if you tell him how your little program just can't read his big seller's files, or something to that effect, he will take pity on you and put in a little extra effort. Good Luck, Alfred ========== ----- Original Message ----- From: "John and Joyce Kistenbroker" <Tennridge@blomand.net> > I received a file from a Family Tree Maker user - he said he was sending me > a GEDCOM but it has an .ftw extension instead of a .ged extension.
