Global search & replace does work for me, and I have used it to solve the problem of meaningless notes in imported GEDCOM. However, I would only regard it as a partial solution. Sometimes the meaningless notes are too long for the global search & replace mechanism. That is, the search argument is too long. So I have to do the replace piecewise. The other problem is that I am often left with blank notes which are not null. The meaningless notes are often preceeded by two or three blank lines, and it seems impossible to include those blank lines in the search argument for global search & replace. So I end up having to delete the blank but not null notes by hand, and there can be a lot of them and they can be hard to find. I am pleased, however, that the global search and replace mechanism does permit the replacement string to be null.
