Greetings fellow Family Origins Users, I have just subscribed to this list. Will the listowner be kind enough to tell me how many subscribers this list has so that I will know how many people I am talking to when I post a query? I have been a Family Origins owner/user since version 1.0 and have welcomed and enjoyed every upgrade since then. I am currently using version 9.02, which I believe is the latest. Earlier today I visited the "unofficial Wish List" web page and found that it hasn't been maintained for over two years. What's with that? I have some enhancements for version 10.0 that I would like to propose but do not know how to go about presenting them. Is this the correct forum for doing that? Do the developers of FOW monitor this list? I would enjoy hearing from anybody on this subject. Sincerely, Jack W. Ralph Carson City, NV "FoxPro Lives!"
A few months ago I bragged that we had passed the 800 subscriber mark. Bruce noted that the unofficial wish list had been stagnant for some time so he started an official one. It comes once in a while, along with nine other notes, as a trailer to these messages. TO wit: ==== FAMILY-ORIGINS-USERS Mailing List ==== The "Family OriginsĀ® Wish List" http://formalsoft.com/wishlist.htm ??? FAQ ??? -- http://www.graabek.com/fow/fofaq.html ------------ The addresses for the archives of this list are in the trailers too. One is browsable and the other is searchable (I haven't checked in a long time to see if the search for the browsable list is working yet.) Welcome aboard, Family-Origins-Users-Mailing list administrator Alfred Eller P.S. note the trailer I left on your original message. ========== ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jack W. Thanks to all who replied to my initial query. To Margaret: Thanks for telling me that there was an "official" Wish List and for telling me that Bruce monitors this list and that I could post my "wishes" here. To Alfred: Thanks for telling me how many people are subscribed to this list. It's nice to know how many people are "listening" when I ask a question. Thanks also for giving me the link to the "official" Wish List. I have read the list and find than many of my own personal "wishes" have already been requested by others. I will not repeat them. However, I have a few that weren't mentioned. Should I post them here or on the web page? To Paul: Thanks for your welcome message. The reason it took me so long to "find you" is because I have never "needed you" (the list and the group) in the past. If fact, I don't even "need you" now <VBG> Family Origins has been so easy to install (starting with version 1.0), use, and upgrade, that I never found a need for "help" from a support group. I joined the list tonight because I thought of a couple of things that I thought would make Family Origins even better than it already is and was looking for a place to request them. To Linda: It is my understanding that the LDS conversion from GEDCOM to XML is years away. It is way too soon to worry about how other programs will be able to handle it. I am sure that Bruce is working on it already. To Bruce (if you are listening): It appears to me that you have written your wonderful program in Visual FoxPro. This is based on the extensions of the files in the database. Please let me know either way. I could be wrong. If it is true, I would like to correspond with you privately regarding the direction Microsoft is taking with VFP and it's removal from VS7. By the way, I am a longtime VFP developer. Welcome to the list, Jack. Sorry it took you so long to find us. Unfortunately, the wish period for Ver. 10 is over but it's never too soon for next year's list so go right ahead and post. I don't know the official total, Alfred should have that number and post it for you, but you should know that Bruce Buzbee, the programs author, monitors this list closely so this is your best shot at getting your ideas implemented. -- Happy Hunting!! -- Paul Houston, TX, USA ICQ #73314929 Researching: VA - WHITE,LIPSCOMB,HILL,JOHNSON,SAUNDERS, TALBOT,TATE,EVANS NC - SMITH, BOSWELL, RHODES, CAPEHART,MORRIS, MARSHE, BRITT,SHAW View my American Ancestry at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~paulrsmith **************** FREE Credit Card Referral Program.
