    3. Dear Listers, My first personal database (PDB1) was started about 10 years ago with my great grandfather entered first (Rec#1), my great grandmother next (Rec#2) and then their children Rec#3, Rec#4, etc. As the database grew, I would pause every year or so, make a gedcom and then rename the database and go on from there. Last year, I was up to PDB8 with 607 individuals. Due to deleting and adding, some of the higher record numbers have changed with the gedcoming out and back in but the original entries have remained the same. A few months ago, I had a breakthrough on my research. I found my great grandfather's parents and a bunch of his siblings. I renamed PDB8 to PDB9 and added these new people separately, including my great grandfather again. Then I merged my original gGF into the new gGF and everything went smoothly. PDB9 now has 614 individuals with proper links. BUT, I gedcomed out and back in and now gGM is Rec#1 and the children are 2, 3, etc. gGF is Rec#604. I would like to put my gGF back to Rec#1 but don't know of any easy way to do this. Of course, I could go back to PDB8 and manually add the parents to my original gGF (Rec#1 in this database) instead of adding them separately. Then I could add the siblings as children of the new parents. But there were a lot of other changes in PDB9 - like dates, places, some additional facts, sources, notes, etc. on other individua;s besides the ones discussed here. This would be a major chore to redo. Does anyone have any suggestions or should I just live with PDB9 as it is? Charles

You could drag & drop gGF by himself to a new database. Then d & d everyone else to that same new database and link gGF to them. That would make gGF #1 and the rest would be renumbered as they come beginning with #2, and may or may not end up in the order you want them. Wayne League
