    1. [FO] Ancestor Book
    2. David E. Cann
    3. I have just printed out an "Ancestor Book" for my wife's line, with the "Ancestors and children" option selected, but when I printed out the document, my wife noticed right away that her half-sister (same father, different mother) was left out of the printed document, with only her five "full" siblings included. I have never noticed this before, but is this normal? Is there a way of "forcing" FO (I am using 9.02) to include such a family member? This sister (they NEVER use the "half," even though it is correct) and her father were abandoned by her mother not long after her birth, and when her father then married my wife's mother, the family has always gone to great lengths to include her in the "new family" in every way, and this printout has presented me with some problems. This sister and my wife have the same father but different mother, but it seems to me that printing out my wife's ancestors and their children should include this half-sister. If my wife's father is her ancestor, and this half sister is one of his children, then why can't she be included in such a report? We are going to a family reunion tomorrow and I would like to be able to take a report that includes ALL of my wife's ancestors and ALL of their children ("half" or "full"), but am I asking for something that cannot be done? I welcome any suggestions from anyone. I realize time is short now, but I hadn't anticipated something like this. David MSgt David E. 3. She is already linked to the marriage of her father and birth mother. If you link her again, but to the marriage of her father and stepmother, she should print out as one of the children. She could remain linked to both sets of parents. She would be linked to her father twice, but to each mother. At 09:59 PM 6/9/01 -0400, David E. 1. [FO] Deleting a family with descendants
    2. Stanley Harder
    3. Any chance there's a tool in FO for deleting a family and all it's descendants? I copied over a person and all descendants with spouses, without knowing how many individuals were involved. I should have specified only 2 generations and didn't. Now I have added 4,783 additional individuals in my database of 10,000 that I don't want there. (Yes, I could go back to backup but don't have one from the last week or so. Don't know how many other changes I could lose.) Ideas? Stan Harder Web page: http://www.smharder.com

    3. Do it right 100 times in a row and you never hear a thing, but do it wrong just once, and you hear about it FOREVER <:-) My thanks to all who have responded, both on and off the list, including Alfred who sent me a list of ALL taglines which are now "filed" away, and to Bruce for taking the time to straighten me out. I thank one and all, but you can stop the responses now. I think the problem is that I am home on a Friday, and I am very rarely home on any weekday, and I do "dangerous things" when I have extra time on my hands <G>. Thanks again to one and all. 1. [FO] Page numbering
    2. Hi ! If there are no important problems out there, perhaps you can help me with mine. A friend and I put together a book before Christmas, using version 8, and I ran into a numbering problem. We began the book with an introduction, maps, stories, copies of wills, etc, numbering about 52 pages. Then we printed five generations of the family, using FO, Reports, Books, Indented (outline numbering), and changing the page numbers so that the first page was page 53. It made a beautiful report, except for the fact that the index did not change numbers, so that what was on my page 53, it showed as page 1. We were in a hurry to get it finished, so we just made the report in two parts, each starting on page 1. Did I miss something? Can someone tell me what I did wrong? Christina Hoffman

    2. Jerry Bryan
    3. >Would the global search & replace option work for you? By the way, >mine is not working right now--does anyone have a clue on that? Global search & replace does work for me, and I have used it to solve the problem of meaningless notes in imported GEDCOM. However, I would only regard it as a partial solution. Sometimes the meaningless notes are too long for the global search & replace mechanism. That is, the search argument is too long. So I have to do the replace piecewise. The other problem is that I am often left with blank notes which are not null. The meaningless notes are often preceeded by two or three blank lines, and it seems impossible to include those blank lines in the search argument for global search & replace. So I end up having to delete the blank but not null notes by hand, and there can be a lot of them and they can be hard to find. I am pleased, however, that the global search and replace mechanism does permit the replacement string to be null.
