    3. Eva, I was about to respond to this, but Alfred beat me to it. To my knowledge, though, unless I have missed it since version 3, Family Origins has no password capability. If you have added one through some other means, then the problem is with the other software, and not Family Origins. As for "transfer a book to e-mail," it also has no such capability, so that is the reason for Alfred's puzzlement. If you mean saving the book to file and reading it using another software (such as Word, etc.,), then that problem as well is with the other software. We most likely have someone on this list who can help you, but you need to be a bit more specific just what the problem is for someone to advise you, but it would be off topic for this list and once contact is made, you should really contact that person privately to "keep Alfred from getting TOO upset" with you <g> David *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 06/30/2001, at 9:28 AM, Alfred Eller wrote: >What Password? > >"transfer a "book" to e-mail"? > >Alfred >=============== > >----- Original Message ----- >From: "Eva Enoksen" <eva.enoksen@sensewave.com> > >> I use FO version 9.02 >> Almost every time I transfer a "book" from FO to e-mail, my password >disappears. >> Can someone please tell me what is happening, and what I can do to prevent >this from happening again? >> >> Eva MSgt David E. If you set up find search criteria where "death place" "contains" and leave "search for?" blank, that will find all instances where the death event exists. If you then add AND "death place" "is blank" AND "death date" "is blank" then you will find only the death events with no associated date or place. By repeatedly clicking on "next" in FO explorer you can go from one to the next, fixing them as you go. Wayne League

    3. I've just noticed that I have a bunch of death facts in my database with no associated date or place. When creating a web site or book it says the person "died" and/or "was buried". Can anyone tell me how to do a search for these so I can remove them? I have about 5500 people in my database, so I'd rather not look at each one :-). Thanks, Paul Pennington Augusta, Georgia

    3. If you want a report, choose "lists", "facts Usage", then choose and ASCII text file, highlight "death", and hit "OK". You can easily see which are blank. Norma

    1. [FO] Connecting
    2. Echo Zornes
    3. Hi to everyone, I have had so much trouble with my computer this week. I've had to reinstall everything, every program and then the programs I had came back doing that. I though I'd lost all my genealogy information in Family Origins but got that back too. I have a couple questions if someone could please answer me. First one: When I click on File, Check Mail, there pops up a little screen that says Pre-Dial I think is what it has on it, so I click on connect and then the computer starts dialing. How would I get that little Pre-Dial screen to not come up, it didn't used to be there? Second one: There is loud static sounding noise when the computer is dialing my ISP (or whomever it's dialing)and that didn't used to be. It used to be so quiet I couldn't even hear anything hardly when it dialed. Is there a way to shut that off or at least down some? Thanks for any information. Echo

    2. Alfred Eller
    3. To copy from Version 7 to version 9, make a backup with version 7 copy it to the computer with version 9 on it and "Restore", using FOW - 9.02, into the folder of your choice, 9 will convert it to it's own format. To copy from version 9 back to version 7, you have to use a GEDCOM, because 7 doesn't know anything about, so doesn't understand the version 9 format. Some of the problems with Family Origins 9.0 are addressed in a program patch. This patch upgrades Family Origins 9.0 to 9.02, and is a free download of about 1MB found at: http://formalsoft.com/files.htm Good Luck, Alfred ========== ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Burke" <burke@intplsrv.net> > I just installed FO9 on a new computer with Windows ME. Then, making sure the "known" spouse is still highlighted, At the top of the page...choose Edit-Unlink From-Spouse and they should disappear. Hope this works ! -=Kevin=-

    3. Get that individual who has the unknown spouse highlighted, select the unknown spouse, and go to the "Edit" menu, select "Unlink from" and "Spouse". if it is truly an unknown spouse, then it will just go away, but if it is someone you named "unknown" then you will have to delete this individual yourself. 1. Re: [FO] Need Help
    2. Alfred Eller
    3. First of all, you have to extract the FO database attachment from the email and place it in a folder on your hard drive, preferably a new and empty folder. With Outlook Express this is easy to do, but first, determine where you want to put it, or create a new folder to hold it. Then, while in Outlook express, with the e-mail highlighted or opened, click on the "File" menu and select "Save Attachment" then browse to your predetermined location and store it there. Now, What kind of file is it? What kind of extension does it have, GED, ZIP, or something else? If it is a GEDCOM file with the extension of GED, You should open Family Origins, create a new database and import the GEDCOM into it. If it is a backup file with a ZIP extension, then you should open Family Origins, close your opened databases and RESTORE the zip file to a new folder (the one you just created for the file will work) If it is other that these two kinds, tell us exactly what it is, the possibilities are endless.
