Hi Leslie, I'm not sure about CLK, but WPS is used by Microsoft Works as the extension for its word processor files. This has nothing to do with FO, but since most of us are interested in genealogy, I thought you might not mind this URL: http://www.unitedmedia.com/wash/pickles/ Frank Henderson (Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, Cousin, Friend, Casual Acquaintance)
Leslie, Select the file, then hold down the shift key while right clicking on the file. That should give the "Open With" option along with the others in the pop up box. using Windows explorer, or Find, go to the Windows folder on the C: drive and delete the file FOWIN32.INI (Or if you don't trust me, you can just rename it for a while) then FOW will open. If you restore your backup in the same folder as the original was, it will overwrite it and effectively delete the corruption. -- A new FOWIN32.INI will be created, you might have to reset your options and screen preferences. Kathy, That must be a pretty old version of FTM. More recent versions enable you to give the FTM facts names, and you can transfer the GEDCOM over and retain many of the same names. I've also found it useful to apply Gary Bonham's GEDCOM Explorer to the FTM originated GEDCOM before importing it into FO. That cleans up a few items that makes dealing with the file in FO much easier. You can download an evaluation copy of GEDCOM Explorer at http://www.gedx.com/gedx/default.html KMcKellep@aol.com wrote: > > When I gedcom a Family Tree Maker file into Family Origins it doesn't move > FACT 1, FACT 2, etc., over. I am receiving the following code base error everytime I try to open my Master Data Base. I have backups but I can't even open Family Origins 9.2 Error# -200 Error# 83805 File is not a data file database corruption detected C:\Fowin5\MasterDC.DBF C:\Fowin5\MasterDC.DBF Next window: Error# -935 Error# 94001 Null Input Parameter unexpected d4field Next window: Program Error Exiting Application Please tell me what I did that caused this and especially...please tell me how to get my database open! Since I can't get into the archives to look, I'll have to ask here. I've received what is supposed to be 2 gedcoms, but show up as CL4 files and WPS files. I can't get Family Origins to open them. Apparently, I forgot to uncheck the "Always open with this program" when I tried to open it with Family Origins, & now I can't even try to open it with anything else. I've tried right-clicking to see if I could get back to the screen with choices to open the file, but I couldn't figure that out either. Does anyone know how to open these files or at least get me back to the screen to choose something else to try to opening it? Leslie
When I gedcom a Family Tree Maker file into Family Origins it doesn't move FACT 1, FACT 2, etc., over. Is there a way to move these, other than retyping them? The facts are shown under MORE ABOUT XXX - FACTS in the Family Tree Maker program. Kathy
I use Windows 98 and this works for me" 1. Select any .TXT document and right click on it while holding down the shift key. 2. In the box of options which appears, click on "open with". 3. Scroll down to "WORDPAD" and click on it. 4. Make sure there is a check mark in front of "Always use this program to open this type of file". 5. Click, "OK" The key to this operation is holding down the shift key while right clicking on the .TXT file... it's the only way you get the "open with" option. Hope this helps. I made a new Zip Disk back up for my FO and now am getting a "Codebase error # -970- Data Structure corrupt or not initialized. Invalid or Unknown code." Which file is it that I should erase so that I can rebuild the indexes? I get a message saying rebuilding indexes, but it is frozen at 23% Kathy
Does any know how you apply for a delayed birth certificate. My father who was born 4 October 1900 in Chickasaw Nation Indian Territory before Oklahoma became a state in 1907. He was born at home with a midwife and I don't think the birth was registered. During WW II he worked for a defense plant in San Pedro, California during the war. We also received food ration books and he worked for the WPA in 1936.. All of these position required a birth certificate to prove you were a citizen of the United States. I have an affidavit of birth by my aunt who died in 1993 at 101yr who made this affidavit of birth in 1951. It is signed by a notary in Los Angeles, CA. Can I use this as proof when I apply for a delayed birth certificate. Do I apply in California or Oklahoma. Ronnie
Can someone on the list tell me how I can get my family group records and other text reports to open up in Wordpad. For some reason they have started opening up in Notebook and the long lines get truncated. Jane Lindsey Tift (getting antsy for Version 10:>)

Ray, I get mine from Koorong - www.koorong.com.au, I think is their web site and orders can be placed on line. They have stores in NSW, VIC and WA. However, it seems a long way to travel from East Sussex to buy a copy. I think this must be a wish although I will be very happy if someone tells me it can already be done. In Multimedia scrapbook I would like to be able to have the options to maximise the image window when double clicked and be able to set "fit to wondow" as default. Every time I select the window I usually have to select these two options manually. Jeff
Just a little humor from Roots Web while we wait for the next release of FOW WERE YOUR ANCESTORS BEAMED DOWN BY ALIENS? NEW DNA EVIDENCE Scientists at The National Academy for the Study of UFOs have confirmed the existence of the "UFO chromosome." Working with DNA recovered from the aliens of the Roswell, New Mexico crash, the scientists have discovered that the "UFO chromosome" is also present in some humans. This discovery confirms that aliens have been breeding with humans for centuries and beaming their progeny back to earth. For the "low" price of $10,000, they will test your DNA to see if you have the "UFO chromosome." While the test will not tell which ancestor had the "UFO chromosome," there are several ways to identify that ancestor. For such ancestors to conceal their identity: (1) They moved every few years; (2) Their surname was unique in jurisdictions where they lived; (3) The (alien) county clerk ensured that their marriage bonds and other records were lost, their deeds were set aside and never recorded, and their probate files would disappear; (4) The (alien) census taker either would not list them or would list them twice with slight variations; (5) The family Bible was sent "west" with the youngest unmarried daughter, who later married a "Mr. Smith;" (6) The land with the family cemetery was sold to outsiders, who used the headstones to make a sidewalk; (7) Their church did not believe in recording vital statistics; (8) They told tall tales about their relationship to someone famous; (9) They started rumors that they were born in England and arrived in Virginia with two brothers (one of whom was born in France, the other in Sweden). To conceal their identities, one brother moved to Georgia, another to Maine, and the third stayed in Virginia; and (10) when all else failed and they were in real and present danger of discovery, the court house "accidentally" would burn. If you can prove that your ancestor was beamed down by aliens, you qualify to purchase a history of the Alien Family, complete with the Alien coat of arms suitable for display.
