Having just read the posting about the "alleged" new features for Ver 10, it would seem that Bruce has once again surpassed himself with improvements to Family Origins. The addition ("alleged") of being able to print to PDF shows that Bruce responds to what we talk about on this list (we already know that but it's good to be able to demonstrate it). I use a lot of different software (mostly non genealogy) but Family Origins is the only one that I always update. David
>I only want to order from Bruce not Genealogy.com > >Peggy Hooper Amen! Shipping charges are less, and even if it was more and I had to wait longer, I would prefer buying it directly from Bruce. I gave up on Parsons/Broderbund/Genealogy.com (or whatever their most recent name is) a long time ago when they abandoned us in favor of FTM. I've just received the same e-mail from Genealogy.com and checked their ordering procedure. I quickly discovered would cost me more than $40 to have the v10 update sent to Australia, because they only offer the DHL courier option. I really hope Bruce offers the same deal as in the past -- that is, he sells at the same price as Genealogy.com but allows a much better deal on postage. So I'm going to wait and order direct from the author!
Purchasing at the FamilyOrigins website redirects you to Genealogy.com. I will return it unopened if the package indicates it is version 9. I believe Genealogy.com has a 30-day money back guarantee. How did you order direct? Elaine ----- Original Message ----- From: "David E. Elaine, If it works the same way as in the past the chances are that you'll get the most recent version. Version 10, that is. Recent items on the list indicate that neither Bruce nor anyone else in the know is saying when FO10 will be released nor what improvements it will contain, but I have received an unsolicited email from Specials@Genealogy.com offering to take orders for FO10 and describing some of its contents. Is there something which we on the east side of the Big Pond don't know about Enlightment will be appreciated Alan

Thank you Mary and Wayne for your replies. I tried Wayne's suggestions. I didn't know the "one-occurrence" fact about a custom report. That's a bit limiting, in my view, but what the hay. I did, Wayne, go into the Individual List and create reports as you suggested. Although the output is not in the manner I would have hoped, as I really did like the custom report layout I had created, it does help me review my information and make potential data gathering easier. Thanks for the very clear directions. I always learn something from this group. I don't know if you all realize this or not, but when Bruce sells the Family Origins program he has to act just like any other reseller of the product. That is, he has to order the FO CD's wholesale from genealogy.com, pay for them himself, and then sell them to us. So, logically, I would expect to see them available from genealogy.com a little ahead of Bruce. For you folks in Australia, you probably remember that TLC was charging about $35 US just for shipping the FO CD to Australia a year or two ago. Right now on Bruce's web site at http://formalsoft.com/orders.htm he is charging only $5 US to ship the FO9 CD to Australia or the Pacific Rim or to Europe. That's the same as it costs us here in the US. I would guess FO10 will be similar, but I don't know for sure. And, of course, Bruce cannot discuss these things publicly because of ethical and/or contractual considerations.
