Thank you - that was not up when I first checked. I have nothing to add to my previous post. Hugh >From: NellnTexas@aol.com >Hugh, have you checked out www.formalsoft.com? I found several new features >that appeal to me.
> - And numerous minor enhancements > > ================================== Bruce The one thing I welcomed most in FO9 was the ability to attach multimedia files to the events themselves. The big disapointment when I got the upgrade was that there was no indication that the attachment existed on the "edit individual" window, so I didn't make use of the feature. I assumed this was an oversight when FO9 was released but would like to know whether this has been overcome in the "numerous minor enhancements" in FO10 and does the "edit individual" screen now give some indication the attachment exists. I get digital copies of everything I can and attach it to my file and I think the scrapbook should be split as follows :- 1. Personal scrapbook - photo's etc of the person. 2. Family scrapbook - photo's etc of the family 3. Factual scrapbook - documentation pertaining to the person, selecting this option would show all multimedia files regardless of which event they were attached to i.e census, birth-baptism-marriage-death registration, wills, newspaper clippings etc. Anyway - here's hoping Jeff

None whatsoever, but make sure you have backups of your databases to fall back on, "just in case." ANY software can "hiccup" during installation, so make sure you have an extra backup before you install. My apologies Patrick, I was looking at the software & book bundle. The shipping cost for the program only is US$5, which is approximately A$10. Hi Patrick, If you check the order form, the shipping cost varies according to location, US, Canada or Elsewhere. The cost for Elsewhere is quoted as US$10, which is approximately A$20. Yes , Bruce ---- He did it. I only asked for this one time. Just grumbling one day. ---- Start duplicate search on any surname or letter of the alphabet. --- I would buy it just for that.... I am buying it right now... of course I already did write a program to split the one large dup file into 26 for each letter of the alpha bet. I am presently using version 8. I ordered FO 9 but never installed it (I was perfectly happy with 8). Will I encounter any problems upgrading from 8 to 10?
I've just found that Bruce has updated his site http://formalsoft.com and now offers the sale of v10. Shipment cost to Australia is $5.
On the menu called "lists", choose to generate a marriage list. This is NOT the menu "reports", then "marriages". When the computer completes the list, your ghost parents will be a blank line. Double click on the blank line. Highlight the person with the ghost parents. Hold down the control key and hit the delete key. You will be asked if you want to severe the links. Choose "yes"., Now you will be asked if you want to delete the individuals. Choose "no". Your ghost parents are now gone. (this is the same way you get rid of an "unknown spouse" for which there are no children for the couple) Norma
When I do a multiple parent report, I get several individuals with an additional set of parents listed as (UNKNOWN FATHER) & (UNKNOWN MOTHER). I cannot figure out how to get rid of these blank parents. Any suggestions? Laura bradlara@pld.com
That information is on the FormalSoft web page, but the Deluxe version includes another software application called "Place Finder," which I use quite a lot. IMHO, it is well worth the extra cost to get it, but in my case I already have it. I guess somebody has to rain on the parade a little. Briefly, based on the posted description of FO 10, I find no improvement that benefits me and I find no improvement in reports. Hopefully Bruce's efforts will be better than the advance notice by the distributers. Hugh
