    3. What do you mean by reinstall? Has Family Origins 9 been installed on this computer and operating system before? What did you do that you need to re-install it? If this is the first install on this computer, or are-install after you have done the Windows Un-install, it should go quite smoothly. You just shut down all programs that you have running on your computer, including the anti-virus software, put the Family Origins version 9.0 CD in the CD drive and close the drawer. Follow the prompts and hit next a few times, maybe change the folder you install it in from the default if you insist, a few more next buttons and a finish button. (If I remember correctly) Software installation canÂ’t get much simpler than that, unless you buy it already installed. You will have to be a little more specific about where your problems come in. I just cannot imagine where the problem could be. 2. When I went to formalsoft.com the version 10 order form would not open. I was eager to get my check in the mail so I just wrote my check and put it in an envelope addressed to the same address that I used last year: Formal Soft, Inc. P. O. Box 495 Springville, Utah 84663 I was ordering the standard book bundle upgrade so I made my check for $29.95. Please confirm if I made my check in the correct amount and sent it to the correct address. I am hoping that Bruce ships by U. S. 1. [FO] I'm back again...
    2. Patricia Proper
    3. I did re-join to answer my questions. Soooo, I will tell you I had three great big helps with my printer question from this group, and I have answered them with thank you's. As it has turned out, my computer printer went completely "kaput". Son thinks some of the gears are broken inside, well, now I have a new printer, and of course that has lead to the fact I don't have to power to push it! All of these problems will be remedied within a short time for a little $ here and there! (One thing does lead to another - usually, and before you know it, well, need I say more?) The next big question for you to help me with is, I have FO version #6. Been quite happy about it, although I have not upgraded regularly, can I now jump to purchase the new version #10 without running into major problems? I think that I might like to use the place finder, and I am always looking for improvements. QUESTION: I wonder if I should assume that the improvements between my #6 and the now #10 version would not be included in the #10 version, or would they? Is the installment of #10 going to take a genius, or will I be able to install it myself? I also know it is wise to make a copy of my current work, "just in case". I do not remember anything major when I upgraded a few times before, but, I do need assurance from those "who know." Now! Don't need any more "kinks" right now, thank you. I do intend to order from Bruce, he has helped me with some of my questions before, and that's where my allegiance is. 2. After you select your custom report to print, then do the following selections: 1: Find your name, Mark: ANCESTORS, direct only, then OK 2: Unmark: Burial place / doesn't contain / Connecticut (or CT if that's how you entered it.), then OK. 2. Linda Scheimann
    3. Hi, Patricia, It's always best to have both current backups and also a current gedcom for each of your databases before installing a new version of FO (or any other genealogy program). That said, I upgraded directly from FO 5 to FO 9 last January with no problems whatsoever. Installation was smooth and v9 opened and converted the v5 databases perfectly. I'm very happy and have ordered v 10. Best wishes, Linda Scheimann On Tue, 07 August 2001, "Patricia Proper" wrote: > > I did re-join to answer my questions. 3. The easiest way would be to export your direct ancestors to a GEDCOM and import it into a new, empty database, then extract the ones have any connection to Connecticut from that new database. You could drag and drop you and your ancestors to the newly created database too. When you are done, you can delete the new database. 2. MScheffler
    3. Many of the lists and reports have the option to save to a text file rather than printing the report to the screen. . In the report dialog boxes there is a place near the bottom of that screen to choose whether to print to screen, print to a plain text file, or print to an rft format text file. Choose one of the latter two options, then name and save your file. After that, create your email message, and click to add an attachment. From the screen that comes up, you should be able to navigate to where you saved your file and attach it to your message. You may find it easiest to find your saved files if you save them to floppy disk A:\ -- However, you can save them to a directory of your choice on your hard drive. I save mine to a zip disk. Once you have attached your file, go ahead and send your message. It is a good idea to warn people ahead of time that you are sending attachments, since some people are afraid of them, thinking an attachment might contain a virus. I send attachments quite often. It certainly is easier than printing off a lot of pages and putting them in the mail.
