    1. Re: [FO] How is the best way to install Version 9
    2. David E. Cann
    3. I don't know who sold you version 9 now, because version 10 can now be ordered and costs the same price. My suggestion to you would be to get a refund and order version 10 at the same price, but that is up to you. To answer your question about installation, though, I have always simply installed over the previous version, and have never had any problems at all. Easy as pie. That being said, however, if you value your genealogy half as much as I do, MAKE SURE you have recoverable backup copies ON DISKETTE OR OTHERWISE OUTSIDE OF YOUR COMPUTER before you install, because it is always possible for something to go wrong, no matter what software you are using. Good luck. Please contact me privately if you have any other questions. David E. 3. There is nothing to fear, Donalee, so long as you have known good backups. Known good means that you have restored the backup to a new, empty database and verified that the data is OK. I generally uninstall the old version before installing the new one but I don't think it makes any difference. Whichever you do, it WILL NOT affect your database in any way. 3. Here is a Wish List item for the future version(s) of FOW. When creating Family Group Sheets for an individual, who has had multiple spouses, the ability to create sheets for each pairing as a single report request. I know this can be accomplished by selecting Multiple Families, and selecting each one individually, but a simple option would save much work and eliminate oversites when some spouses are missed. 3. We have had a discussion or two recently on this list about various place finders, including the one that comes with FO Deluxe, but is anyone out there aware of one that includes locations through the years for townships? I several of them, depending on what it is I am looking for, and use the one that Bruce furnishes with FO Deluxe the most, but I have yet to find one that accurately locates the various townships. I would be very grateful to anyone who can point me in the right direction. David MSgt David E. 1. [FO] helpful merge tip
    2. Derick
    3. I've been merging individuals since the feature was first introduced. One problem that has always seemed to plague me is which of the myriad of persons with the same name do I merge without proceeding to page through as many as 20 or more? John Cline, is a case in point. If a female has two John Clines listed, I select the first one and change his name to xCLINE, and do the same to the second John Cline. This makes the merge a lot easier. --Derick

    3. It is more a function of the word processor that you are using than it is of Family Origins. With MS Word 6 and Word 2000, (so I suppose everything in between) after you have opened the RTF book in Word, go to the end, just below the word "INDEX" and then go to the "Insert" menu, select "Index/Toc" then follow the prompts to finish up. I suppose other word processors have something quite similar, but named a bit differently. 1. Re: [FO] Is there any reason to wait?
    2. Linda Scheimann
    3. My usual pattern with any program I am upgrading is to purchase as soon as available and then read the relevant mail list or bulletin board for a month or so before installing. In my case, I do the data entry on several databases and websites, and I am trying to avoid downtime by watching for any problems that might affect me from other users' experiences. I do keep backups (and gedcoms in the case of genealogy programs) and I also try to upgrade on a weekend when I've had plenty of sleep and a couple quiet hours set aside just in case there are any problems to work out.
