Paddy said: <snippet> Your Plugin "Check and Repair Media Links" showed that I have a similar problem with broken links in most of my other FH Projects. I think this problem has been self inflicted, when, in a recent fit of enthusiasm, I decided to 're-organize' the media files in my Pictures folder on the C drive of my Win 7 computer. Although this resulted in a neater and more logical structure of my media files, I see now that it broke the links between them and the Multimedia files in FH. Should I now abandon any further 're-organization' of my Win 7 Pictures folder? <snippet> It seems that you keep your Multimedia image files in the Windows Pictures folder rather than the FH Project Media folder. Thus any re-organisation of your Windows Pictures folder will need similar re-organisation of your FH Multimedia file links. I assume you have adopted the FH V4/V5 Project structure within the Family Historian Projects folder. If you are still using FH V3 standalone GEDCOM style then you are missing out on several V5 benefits. See http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to:v4:understanding_projects for details. The popular convention is to copy media files into the FH Project Media folder structure as Multimedia Records are created. Then you can re-organise your Windows Pictures folder without affecting FH Multimedia links. However, this does mean that many media files will be duplicated if you retain them in both folders. Similarly, if you choose to re-organise your FH Project Media folder structure then the Multimedia Records need changing to match. One big benefit of using the FH Project Media folder is that file links are "relative" and whole Projects can be moved, even from PC to PC, without breaking the links. The Plugin can help you repair links and move media files, but ensure you have good backups in case things go awry. Regards, Mike Tate
