I have a GEDCOM file of a branch of my family. If I click on it in Explorer, it opens in FH, no problem. However, it doesn’t appear in the list of available projects to open when I start up FH from scratch, presumably because it isn’t in a Project folder with the associated files. How do I turn this GEDCOM file into a project folder? Dennis
Dennis asks: <snippet> How do I turn this GEDCOM file into a project folder? <snippet> You have what is known as a standalone GEDCOM file from FH V3. On the border of FH top left it is identified by "Family Historian Gedcom" instead of "Family Historian Project". All the advice you should need is in FH via "File > Project Window > Tips for New & Upgrading Users" plus "Notes for Upgrading Users". http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to:v4:understanding_projects provides more details. Essentially you need to use "File > Project Window > New Project > Import a GEDCOM file". BUT do read the help and advice first, especially if you have associated Multimedia files. Otherwise, the Multimedia will NOT get imported into the Project and you will have to start over again. Regards, Mike Tate
