    1. [FHU] Very Newbie AS Query
    2. Anne Wilson
    3. I am using Windows 7 - FH 5.0.9 - AS 4.0.1 with the Data entry plugin Just starting out on AS and am unsure of some very basic things and feel a fool asking this. I am using the Knowledge base, searching the forum, using the AS help etc 1. I set up the initial settings per the animated tutorial on UTube for using the Sample project and it successfully loaded in AS with the names in the RH Column. Then I copied my 'own family project' and set it as the default. Am I correct in thinking that I don't have to repeat the whole procedure of initial settings again? 2. I started trying to put in a marriage and put in the date of marriage as "3 Feb 1904" per the knowledge base and tabbed through it then realized I should have put in "February" in full and tried deleting it out and tabbing through again and then re-entering it as '3 February 1904' to be advised 'invalid date' - I can see it is in the Vital Records section as 'Feb' and that is probably why it is being rejected. How do I get out of this? And if I don't need to get out of it - How does one correct silly errors? I can't believe I am the only one making these errors or have I not set it up properly? To be honest I feel embarrassed to be asking this. ---------------------- Best wishes, Anne

    3. Anne, As Jane says, it is better to post in the FHUG AS Forum. But here are a few quick pointers. It is advisable to work through all the AS tutorials in the FHUG KB. The textual tutorials give more details than the animations. They let you experiment on the Sample Project without risking your own project. The AS initial settings are just to ensure the tutorials work in a consistent way, and only need setting once, but since you have just installed AS those setting would have applied anyway. For your Project you would be advised to understand all the AS options and templates to ensure they are tailored to your way of working. I am not sure what you mean by "Then I copied my 'own family project'". Starting from FH, you open your Project and run the AS Data Entry Plugin. No copying is involved, as AS works directly on your Project GEDCOM file. "3 Feb 1904" is a valid GEDCOM date - no need to change to February. The only way I can get Invalid Date is if I enter the letter O instead of zero 0 in 19O4.
