    3. I am sure there must be some of you who are doing a OneName of OnePlace study and so I would be interested in your comments as to how this program helped you. Also any other suggestions for OneNamers please ? Cheers from Valerie in sunny Sydney --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! 3. I have been doing a one name study for many years on the Filmer family, which almost without exception traces it's origins back to one family in Kent in the 15th/16th century and from there back to the 13th century. I think Family Historian is an ideal programme for connecting up the many diverse and worldwide members of the family, which now number over 23,000. I back it up with an Access database file, which is ideal for recording individual data and sources and which can be searched in many different ways to find and prove links in our family tree. Access data is easily correlated with Family Historian by using Custom ID numbers against individual entries where and when a connection can be made and the absence of an ID number highlights where more research is needed. Though I have never used it for this purpose, I think Excel would also be suitable programme for recording individual data, though I don't believe it is as flexible when it comes to searching for possible connections. Another programme that I once used was Custodian, though again Access is more flexible if one can master it. Family Historian and Access also need to be supported by programmes such as Word, pdfs, pictures, etc to record research which cannot easily be recorded and searched on a data based programme. I am lucky in that the Filmer name almost without exception originates in Kent and the size of the family allows the above approach. A different approach may be needed with a more widespread name.
