Jack, Do you understand what I mean about the Multimedia Record file link pointing to the wrong location for the actual media file? I was asking about FH Project structure, not product structure, i.e. Family Historian Projects folder containing a folder structure for your Projects. Have you used Windows Explorer to try and locate your media files in the Project Media folder or elsewhere? If they are missing from the Media folder then copy them in again from the travel drive. Does that cure the problem? If not then, please give a few examples of where some Multimedia Records think their media files should be. i.e. In the Multimedia Window expand some Multimedia Records top left, and tell me what the File field contains. (You will probably have to scroll right to see its contents.) You can do much the same via the Records Window ~ Multimedia tab. Also, you can use Tools > Work with External File Links to get a complete File Links list. In this tool, does the File Links list start with Project Data Folder - Media, or something else, and if so what? Do ALL the files have a large X against them, or only some of them? In response: I am using V-5. Do not understand question regarding product structure. Didnt use drop box etc. I have since gone back and reinserted my travel drive and all files, including MM are intact therein. Initiall file was created Legacy, way back in Version thru 7.5. Created gedcom, therein and began FH using it. No MM used at that time. Selected FH, because of its ease to insert MM files. Hundreds added since start 6-8 months ago. ________________________________ From: Beryl & Mike Tate <[email protected]> To: 'Jack Lamphier' <[email protected]>; [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, March 26, 2014 9:40 AM Subject: Re: [FHU] What have I done wrong? Jack, each large X means that FH cannot find the media file at the location listed in the Multimedia Record. Are you sure the media was all OK the first time you opened FH? Did you actually recover the media files from the travel drive? Assuming you have FH V4 or V5, did you have a standard Project structure with all your media files in the Media sub-folder? Use Windows Explorer and look to see whether those files exist anywhere near where the Multimedia Records say they should exist. Do you by any chance keep your FH Projects in a Dropbox or OneDrive folder? If you still cannot find an explanation, please give as much detail about your version of FH, Project structure, etc, otherwise it is difficult to be specific about solutions. I have been forced to do a recovery on my Win 7 PC, hence I've had to start from the beginning installing secondary programs including FH. I reinstalled from a back-up on a travel drive. The first time I opened it, all was fine. I made no changes and closed out. Today, upon opening FH, all my multimedia has vanished.Clicking MM brings up a bunch, over 500, boxes with titles, no pictures, just a large X across it. Help. please. I realize I must be doing something wrong. Tell me how to prevent it reocurring.
