Good day, At present I am running FH 4.1.3 under Windows XP SP3. I am in the process of shifting my data to a Windows 7 laptop. I intend to install FH 5 on the laptop and then copy the My Gedcom.ged file from the old computer to the new one. Would this work or would I have to go another route? Regards Jane Merkel

There is a useful article in the Knowledge base which covers moving to a new computer which I recommend you review. http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to:move_settings -- Jane. I would further advise that you update to FH V5.0.9 on both PC before the move. Then you can use the "Backup And Restore Family Historian Settings" Plugin to assist with the move from PC to PC. The point to be aware of is that there is more to FH than just the GEDCOM file. As Jane says, the Project folder contains more than just the GEDCOM, as it also has all your Multimedia files, etc... Also any customised Diagram, Report, Query, and other settings are stored elsewhere. BTW: You do NOT have to install any earlier versions before installing FH V5 on your new laptop. You just need your FH V4 and FH V5 Licence Keys. The FHUG http://www.fhug.org.uk Knowledge Base has advice on that topic as well.
