Simon, UTF-8 encoding will certainly be a useful option, but neither that nor Export > GEDCOM File convert from FH dialect GEDCOM into dialects needed by other products. For example, the FH Fact Witnesses (_SHAR) and Place Records (_PLAC) and Media Face/Detail Frames (_AREA), to name a few, are rarely supported by other products, and even standard GEDCOM 5.5 is often poorly supported, so conversion is required to minimise data loss, which is what the Plugin offers. That should solve a number of problems with companion products that don't support UTF-16. You can already export your data in UTF-8 using the Export command on the File menu (click File, Import/Export , Export, GEDCOM File) but obviously it's easier if you don't have to do that. The Gedcom file is now encoded in UTF-16 format. Regards, Mike Tate ------------- John via <family-historian-users@rootsweb.com> wrote: >Hi I wonder if there are any Gensmarts users out there?
