Janet, To change the number of generations, use the Report Options: With the 'Descendants by Generation' narrative report open, click the Options button on the right. On the main tab of the Report Options the first item is Generations, which by default is set to 3. Set this to whatever number you want, then click OK. The Descendants by Generation report is designed to give exactly that: all the known descendants of the starting person. You could, however, restrict the report to one side of the family by temporarily setting the 'Private' flag on individuals you don't want in the report and then using the Report Options > Privacy tab and tick 'Omit all references to individuals flagged as 'Private'. (Remember to remove the flag from them afterwards).
