Andrew, the first question I have to ask is what backups do you have? Without backups, any PC or human malfunction could spell disaster!!!! Please double-check your Individual records to ensure your record is missing. To make it easier, in the Records window, sort the records into Surname order by clicking the 'Individual Records' column heading. Also you can use the search feature at the top. Perhaps also search for records with your Birth Date, just in case you have edited the record Name. Display in the Focus Window in turn: firstly your parents, and then your first wife (and second wife?) to ensure your record does not show up there. If it helps, you can set any one of them as File Root by right-clicking their box and choosing Make File Root. If your record turns up, then maybe it simply needs re-linking to some of your relations. If your record really is missing then you MUST have deleted it, and confirmed the associated popup warning message. Returning to my first question, have you a backup you can restore? If you can do so without losing any other recent edits, then simply restore it? Otherwise you will need to create a new project from that backup and use File > Split Tree Helper to delete all except your close family records. Then use File > Merge/Compare File to merge your close family records into you main project. Regards, Mike Tate -----Original Message----- Subject: [FHU] Lost Person Now something simpler! Although I have had family historian for quite a while now I am still struggling with it, mainly I think because my computer skills are pretty appalling. I have found that suddenly I myself have been excised from the family tree focus and records windows. However my first wife and children are still present in the records window. My sister is shown as the only child of my parents. A quick check has not shown any other major deletions. I I have no idea how this has happened because I have not done any work on myself or the immediate family for some time. The only other thing that I have noticed is that the tree now opens with my five times great-grandfather so I must have inadvertently made him the root person. I did not immediately worry about this but I suppose it may have happened at the time of the deletion. Formerly I was the root person. Any help would be most gratefully received. Andrew Brain.
