Multimedia files sometimes cause problems and confusion. In case it helps, here are few suggestions that may help: Keep things as simple as possible. Let FH do as much as possible (hopefully everything). It should be possible to do whatever you need to do relating to multimedia files entirely within Family Historian - at least if you have 4.1. You shouldn't have to 'manually' copy media files into the FH project folder at any point - even if you're merging. You should find that towards the end of the merge process you will be prompted "Copy any linked multimedia into the current project"? FH should handle the links correctly whether you decide to copy them in or not. Jane's advice to Karen Francis in her recent post about merging is probably good for earlier versions of FH, but should not be necessary for 4.1. If you try a merge and after the merge some pictures don't appear (some links are broken), here are some things to consider: (a) If you are merging 2 projects, don't export the GEDCOM file and then merge the exported GEDCOM file. Use the merge command to merge directly from the GEDCOM file located in the project you're merging from (it may take a little digging to find it in the project folder). (b) Check your multimedia links before you merge. If the pictures don't display correctly in that GEDCOM file or project *before* the merge, they won't be OK after the merge either.
