Assume you main 860 person tree is your master tree and the 200 person one is the child tree, I am assuming you have projects for both trees and that your media is stored inside the project. 1. Make a copy of your Master Project (as a backup) using the Copy Project option on the More Tasks button on the Project window. 2. Copy the contents of the media folder on your child project to your Master Project media folder using windows, look carefully at the copies if you are prompted to overwrite any to ensure the files are actually the same. 3. On your Master project select merge compare from the File menu and select your Child project gedcom from the child project fh_data folder. 4. Work through the merge ensuring any matches on all tabs are correct. On 27 November 2011 18:46, Karen Francis <ranaridibunda@hotmail.com> wrote: So... I have realised that within the 5000+ records in my Alabaster project, I have one family that is completely duplicated, with some same information and some extras. I would like to use the Compare and Merge facility but thought I should try it on a practice file first.............I have more or less worked through the Tutorial in Chapter 15........... Please would you suggest the best method of producing a copy on which to practise without getting the two confused - I tried to follow step 1 in your instructions below but could not find the Copy Project option on the More Tasks button on the Project window so failed at the first hurdle. This means you are not running V4.1, you can download the upgrade to V4.1 from http://www.family-historian.co.uk/downloads/latest-free-upgrade On 28 November 2011 09:06, Laraine Hake <laraine10@btinternet.com> wrote: > but could not find the Copy Project option on the More > Tasks button on the Project window so failed at the first hurdle. -- Jane.
